Bio

Matthew Schramer, a man of many diverse talents, specializes in screenwriting, directing, videography, and video editing, but recent professional experience has encouraged Matt to cultivate other talents and skills, including DVD authoring and motion graphics. Matthew graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA in film/media arts. While still a student, he directed more than ten short films, four of which competed in film festivals around the US and online. Matt’s short film Bubbie was an official selection of the Rhode Island International Film Festival and won best of state at the Gloria International Film Festival in 2008. His screenplays have also been recognized and awarded, namely Traffic Jam, which won 3rd place at the Vera Hinckley Mayhew Screenwriting Compeition, while others were adapted into films or work shopped.

On other student films Matthew served as a producer and 1st Assistant Director. One such film Matthew produced was Toward a Theory of The Evolution of a Turkey – a live action/animation film directed by Brandon Arnold, a graduate student of San Francisco State University as part of his master’s thesis project. Later this creative children’s film was accepted into the renowned Chicago International Children’s Film Festival and many other international film festivals around the globe.

Matthew’s feature work includes work as an office assistant and PA on independent films: “Mr. Dungbeetle,” and “Together Again for the First Time.” But his most notable work to date was as principle editor on a feature-length documentary film about the modern day Maya of Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala, entitled, Balancing the Cosmos. (balancingthecosmos.com) The feature documentary has screened around the world in Germany, Poland, Texas, Philadelphia, and more coming soon.

Aside from Matthew Schramer’s short and feature film work, he spent two years working full time as creative director and video editor of the multimedia department for Broadband Learning, where he produced continuing education videos in the fields of Real Estate, Rehab Training, Nursing, Hospital Management, Mortgage Broker’s Training, and more. During his time at Broadband Learning, Matt also helped his team construct a green screen studio for multi-camera shoots. When Matthew left BBL in 2008, he began his career as a freelance filmmaker and multimedia professional, completing projects in a wide range of industries, ranging from corporate videos and live seminars to promotional spots and children’s TV pilot episodes. Some noteworthy clients include BYUtv, DealerTrack, Dr. Paul Dobranksy M.D., UVU Award Ceremony, BYU Law Department, Howcast, Hospitalito Atitlan, and others. Matt’s freelance contract work has taken him to New York, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, and other great cities in the US.

Even with Matt’s busy schedule of lined up projects, he finds time to write screenplays and is currently working on a feature-length screenplay of his own. He is a prolific writer who dabbles in multiple genres and is credited with more than fifteen short screenplays and even more poems. For a sample of Matt’s writing, please see the stories page. On a personal front, Matthew Schramer currently resides in Springville, Utah with his beloved wife Brittnee, who is a gifted photographer and hard-working social worker.
